The Company: Pathways Vermont is an innovative statewide non-profit agency committed to ending homelessness and providing pioneering mental health services. Pathways Vermont is seeking a highly motivated full-time Development Assistant to support the overall function of the Development Department.

 

The Role: The Development Assistant will play an important role in providing donor database management, supporting communications with all constituent groups, event planning and implementation, and foundation and grants management. This position is supervised by the Director of Development and Communications. This is an ideal position for someone seeking to gain broad skills in all aspects of nonprofit development and building relationships with key groups. Successful candidates will be personable and relationship-centered individuals with strong verbal and written communication skills.

 

Location: Winooski, VT

 

Responsibilities:

 

Communications

  • Help to create and adhere to a yearly, agency-wide communications plan
  • Produce consistent, high-quality social media, website, and print content and oversee the growth of all media platforms
  • Liaison with all Pathways Vermont’s programs and teams to produce stories detailing the agency’s work as well as inspirational stories of the lives of the people we work with
    • Help develop inspirational stories of the lives of the people we work with and our staff members by interacting with service recipients and staff for interviews, quotes, photos, and videos to be used in social media, marketing materials, donor communications, and other outlets
  • Help write and design monthly e-newsletters and printed publications (includes list maintenance)
  • Oversee the development and production of various fundraising and marketing materials, including appeals, pamphlets, cards, magnets, etc.
  • Liaison with program Team Leads to produce program-specific marketing materials

 

Grant Writing, Reporting, and Management

  • Assist with management of all current and ongoing restricted and unrestricted agency grants
    • Maintain and cultivate relationships with current foundations and their administrators
    • Produce reports to foundation partners in a timely and accurate manner
    • Manage and track all grant information and due dates for reports and communicate with staff about data and input needed
  • Research and apply for new grant and foundation opportunities that support Pathways Vermont’s work and provide the ability for department and agency growth
  • Represent the organization in a positive manner at various internal and external community events involving funding partners

 

Event Production and Management

  • Work with the Director of Development and Communications to organize on-site and off-site tours and events designed to steward and expand Pathways Vermont’s base of supporters throughout the year
  • Assist in the ‘tour guide’ role of regular  ‘Crossing Paths’ community tours
  • Represent the organization at various internal and external community events

 

Database and Donation Records

  • Manage records in Bloomerang database by entering donations as they are received and updating donor records
  • Perform donor research
  • Consistent interaction with the finance team to reconcile financial records;
  • Generate acknowledgment letters (including regular, IHO, IMO) in a timely manner according to Pathways Vermont’s communication plan
  • Facilitate donor acknowledgments ongoing, including thank you calls and cards from the Executive Director and Director of Development and Communications.
  • Prepare regular reports and lists as needed 
  • Manage pledges and donor communications including, but not limited to, reminders and delinquent payments

 

Stewardship of Internal and External Relationships 

  • Provide excellent customer relations and provide a welcoming and rewarding experience to Pathways Vermont’s Donors, Staff, Service Recipients, Vendors, and Volunteers
  • Help develop new sources of content that highlight the work of Pathways Vermont, its service recipients, and staff by interacting with both to obtain interviews, quotes, photos, videos to be used in social media, marketing materials, donor communications, and other outlets
  • Liaison with design and print vendors
  • Organize and oversee meaningful volunteer opportunities for community involvement with the organization
  • Potential for travel statewide
  • Communicate the mission, vision, and work of Pathways Vermont to donors and supporters of Pathways Vermont

 

General

  • Other duties pertaining to the Development Department as assigned

 

Ideal Skills and Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of development, digital and social media, and fundraising experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with people of diverse social and cultural backgrounds, including colleagues within the organization and the population of people served
  • Consistent application of confidentiality, discretion, diplomacy, and tact
  • Ability to meet deadlines and see projects through to completion
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Positive attitude and a sense of humor
  • Self-starter who can work independently in a deadline-driven environment to see projects through to completion
  • Ability to successfully manage multi-faceted projects, priorities, and timelines
  • Collegial, team-oriented working style with a willingness to share in both strategic thinking and administrative tasks
  • Strong writer with demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications;
  • Experience using social media for promotional purposes
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Canva, and Bloomerang experience with graphic design a plus
  • Commitment to and interest in Pathways Vermont’s mission
  • Flexibility with work schedule; this position does require occasional evening and weekend work

 

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Standing for sustained periods of time during presentations
  • Frequent operation of a computer and other office machinery including frequent typing
  • Frequent talking and listening in participation of exchanging ideas through spoken word and receipt and giving of detailed information through oral communication
  • The worker is subject to various environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
  • Ability to utilize various modes of transportation (bus, train, plane, etc.)

 

Compensation:

  • Full time, non-exempt, hourly
  • 35 to 40 hours per week
  • $19 to $21 per hour
