SUMMARY:Overdose Prevention and Management Training
DESCRIPTION:In this 2-hour workshop\, participants will learn about this person-directed approach utilizing multiple strategies to reduce the negative consequences of harmful behaviors associated with the use of drugs. Together\, we’ll explore how to meet folks where they are and support them to develop strategies to gain control over areas of their lives that may be destructive. Participants will: develop empathy and compassion by reflecting on our own harmful behaviors; investigate the utilization of self-harm behaviors as survival tools for managing pain\, trauma\, and anxieties; learn about strategies for navigating and diminishing harm; practice engaging in conversations about the pain and trauma that lead to harmful behaviors; and learn basic overdose prevention & management skills. \nBy the end of the workshop\, participants will be; \n\nable to identify what is happening during an overdose and the potential risks associated.\nable to identify the signs of overdose and respond with lifesaving measures\, including Naloxone.\ninformed of the different bodily responses to stimulants and how to identify potential overuse of stimulants.\n\nFacilitator: \nSkylar Kelley\, RN\, is the Nurse Team Lead at Pathways Vermont. They have worked in various nursing settings including ICU\, cardiac care\, and in the community. They believe that healthcare that feels supportive and choice-centered should be available to ALL of us\, ALL of the time…for FREE! Skylar is passionate about harm-reduction\, collective liberation\, and donuts. They live in Colchester\, VT with their spouse\, toddler\, and two cats. In their spare time they play dress-up with said toddler and try to convince her that walking in the woods continuously in one direction (you might call it “hiking”) is a good time. \nLogistics: \nPlease log in from a quiet\, undisturbed location for this event as there are interactive sessions with discussions\, not webinars. \nThis training is for people who work and/or live in Vermont. This training is free of charge to participants and generously sponsored by the Peer Workforce Development Initiative. \nContact peerworkforce@pathwaysvermont.org with any questions.

SUMMARY:Conversations About Suicide
DESCRIPTION:Schedule: \nThis is a two-day\, eight-hour virtual training. We will meet on Thursday\, 3/6\, and Friday\, 3/7\, from 10:00-2:30 pm ET each day. We will take one 15-minute break and one 45-minute break during each training session. Participants must attend each session in full to receive a certificate of completion. \nDescription: \nIn this participatory workshop\, we’ll explore ways to practice empathy and prioritize autonomy when engaging in conversations about suicide. We’ll spend time unpacking suicide as a language of pain\, then consider ways to support folks who are thinking about dying. Through sharing personal stories\, opening up dialogue\, and practicing difficult conversations\, we will educate and support each other to remain curious\, lean into discomfort\, and center mutuality. \nThis training is fairly interactive\, so think about what you’ll need to stay present and engaged throughout each session. We ask that participants have cameras on for the majority of the time\, though understand if you need to be off camera for a short amount of time. If you have any accessibility needs\, please let us know on the registration form. \nObjectives: \n+Practice empathy for people considering suicide \n+Increase comfort with talking about suicide \n+Practice having conversations about suicide \n+Explore suicide as a social justice issue \n+Deepen awareness of why people consider suicide \n+Consider ways to restore dignity to crisis \nAudience: \n+ Peer support workers and other service providers working in a variety of social services settings \n+Medical professionals and emergency responders \n+Community members who want to provide better support to people considering suicide \n+Family and friends of people considering suicide \n+People with lived experience of suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts \nPlatform: \nWe will be using Zoom for the training sessions. The link will be shared with you via email prior to the training. Please arrive on time each day so that we can start each session promptly. There will be a waiting room and we will open the room at the start time. \nThis offering from Pathways Vermont is sponsored by Vermont’s Peer Workforce Development Initiative and is free of charge to participants. \nPlease contact peerworkforce@pathwaysvermont.org with any questions.

SUMMARY:Hearing Voices Group - Hybrid
DESCRIPTION:Tuesdays 2:30 pm-4 pm EST In-Person at The Vermont Wellness Collaborative (125 College St.\, 3rd floor) and on Zoom. \nThe Hearing Voices group upholds a fundamental belief that there are many ways to understand the experience of hearing voices and other unusual or extreme experiences.  We seek to utilize this alternative approach to coping with emotional distress that is empowering and useful to those with lived experience or mental health challenges\, and does not start from the assumption that we have a chronic illness.  We are a peer support group that seeks to build mutual understanding about voice-hearing and other phenomena common to having lived experience or mental health challenges.  We hope to empower each other through sharing our stories and those strategies and coping skills that have benefited us on our journeys. \nEmail pvcc@pathwaysvermont.org with any questions.
