SUMMARY:Training - Intentional Peer Support Overview Training (4-hour)
DESCRIPTION:“As peer support in mental health proliferates\, we must be mindful of our intention: social change. It is not about developing more effective services\, but rather about creating dialogues that have influence on all of our understandings\, conversations\, and relationships.” – Shery Mead\, Founder of IPS \nIntentional Peer Support is a way of thinking about and inviting transformative relationships. It provides a powerful framework for creating relationships where both people learn and grow together. IPS is used across the world in community\, peer support\, and human services settings\, and is a tool for community development with broad appeal to people from all walks of life. \nWhy IPS? Peers come together around shared experiences and often a desire to change lives. But without a new framework to build upon\, people frequently re-enact “help” based on what was done to them. IPS offers a foundation for doing something different. We come from a history of grassroots alternatives that focus on building relationships that are mutual\, explorative\, and conscious of power. \nIn this 4-hour online overview\, participants will learn about the history of IPS as well as the tasks and principles of this transformational framework. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and have interactive discussions with the facilitators and other participants. \nPlease log in from a quiet\, undisturbed location for this event as there are interactive sessions with discussions\, not webinars. \nThis training is for people who work and/or live in Vermont. This training is free of charge to participants and generously sponsored by the Peer Workforce Development Initiative. \nContact peerworkforce@pathwaysvermont.org with any questions.

SUMMARY:Training - Intentional Peer Support Core (5-day In-Person - 10/7 through 10/11/24\, Burlington\, VT)
DESCRIPTION:Intentional Peer Support is a way of thinking about and inviting transformative relationships. Practitioners learn to use relationships to see things from new angles\, develop greater awareness of personal and relational patterns\, and support and challenge each other in trying new things. \nBased on Shery Mead’s book\, Intentional Peer Support: An Alternative Approach\, our in-person Core Training is a 5-day introduction to this innovative framework and is designed to have you practicing right away. In a highly interactive environment\, participants learn the tasks and principles of IPS\, examine assumptions about who they are\, and explore ways to create relationships in which power is negotiated\, co-learning is possible\, and support goes beyond traditional notions of “service.” IPS is all about opening up new ways of seeing\, thinking\, and doing\, and here we examine how to make this possible. \nPlease review this document in its entirety before registering. Registration for this training indicates agreement to participate\, as noted in the document. \nSchedule: \nMonday\, October 7th through Friday\, October 11th\, 9:00am-4:30pm. Participants must attend all days. We will take an hour lunch and two short breaks each day. \nVenue to be announced closer to training date. \nCost: \nThis training is generously sponsored by Vermont’s Peer Workforce Development Initiative. SUMMARY:Beyond The Bridge Documentary Screening & Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE FILM \nThe team at A Bigger Vision Films noticed that most documentaries on homelessness offer few solutions\, so they set out to create BEYOND THE BRIDGE\, an ambitious documentary film about solutions to homelessness. The film crew drove over 40\,000 miles to visit 12 cities and dozens of service providers\, those with lived experience and policy makers to answer this question: How can this country solve homelessness in a comprehensive way? \nThe answer: Working with deep coordination — a single homelessness response systems plan based on the principles of Housing First with community buy-in from law enforcement\, judicial systems\, business communities\, service providers\, volunteers\, and leadership from the mayor and county executive\, all working from the same page. \nLearn more about the film here \nLearn more about A Bigger Vision Films here \nABOUT THE EVENT \nA Bigger Vision Films is very excited for you to join for a Special Preview Impact Screening of Beyond the Bridge: A Solution to Homelessness\, hosted in Burlington\, taking place on Monday\, October 7th at the Main Street Landing Film House\, in collaboration with: Pathways Vermont\, Champlain Housing Trust\, The Housing & Homelessness Alliance of Vermont\, and Together Films. \nFollowing this special preview impact screening\, local experts and advocates will join us for a panel conversation and audience Q&A. More info to come soon. \nOur goal is for this film to be a part of a community-wide conversation about homelessness. Who do you know that needs to know more about this issue? Who else needs to get involved in this dialogue? We encourage you to invite others to this free screening\, panel\, and Q&A\, so that we can all be a part of answering the question: How can Vermont solve homelessness in a comprehensive way? \nABOUT THE CAMPAIGN \nThroughout 2024 and 2025\, the Beyond the Bridge team will travel nationwide on a 30-city screening tour\, with the goal of changing the national discourse on solutions to homelessness. Each screening event will include post-screening panels and Q&As\, calls- to-action and follow-up activities for audience members\, and the opportunity for community members to discuss\, together\, how they can begin addressing homelessness in their local communities. Ultimately\, our goals with the campaign are to: \n\nChange the narrative about people experiencing homelessness and solutions to the housing crisis\nInspire communities to develop a unified approach based on Housing First throughout their homelessness and supported housing service system\nBuild unity among homelessness advocates\nExpand public involvement on the issue of homelessness\n\nMore info on the film: https://asolutiontohomelessness.com/
