The Role: The Overnight Shift Supervisor supports Soteria House – a 5 person residence for individuals experiencing an early mental health crisis. This position supervises three resident support staff, ensures essential house functions, and supports residents and House operations during overnight and other shift hours.

Hours and Schedule:

Full-time – 35 to 38 hours per week, at least 25 of these hours are in-person at the house.
Thursday through Monday schedule preferred with shift hours at house Saturday and Sunday
Schedule and regular hours to be discussed in interview
Minimum of 3 weekly 11 PM to 8 AM shifts
Other flexible hours to accommodate required meetings outside of the third shift


Required meetings:
Weekly team, Service leaders, and Supervision;
Bi-weekly Supervisors and Co-reflection
Quarterly Incident Review

Serves: Soteria 

Location: Burlington, Vermont 

Supervised by: Soteria House Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise three full-time Resident Support Staff who work during third shift – this includes but is not limited to providing weekly supervision, training, and general oversight of the third shift team
  • Oversee and plan weekly coverage to ensure two staff are present during third shift
  • Provide coverage if/when third shift staff are absent from their shifts (planned and unplanned)
  • Oversee house maintenance/deep cleaning tracking sheets and third shift cleaning schedule
  • Join meetings and events required of the Soteria leadership/supervisory team
  • Participate in on-call as part of the supervisory team as needed, minimum of 1x monthly

_ Be with _residents: non-judgmental, non-directive approach of providing support and availability

  • Engage in relationship building/rapport building with residents and provide service from a “choice”

perspective as well as client centered, harm reduction, and strengths based approaches

  • Communicate to residents programmatic rules and expectations
  • Maintain thorough understanding of Soteria policies and procedures, including emergency protocol
  • Collaborate with residents in the implementation of a comprehensive care plan
  • Maintain written and computerized records, compile reports, and complete other program documentation (including care notes, incidents, statistics, letters, petty cash receipts, etc.)
  • Participate in holding a share of Shift Leader Operational projects (ex. Point person for deep cleans, receipt management, or other organizational support tasks).
  • Participate in supervisory on-call rotation
  • As requested by residents, provide one to one support with life skills and healthy choices, including but not limited to social skills, wellness, assistance with any medications and housekeeping
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication, writing, and computer skills
  • Ability to tolerate uncertainty
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to form relationships with marginalized individuals
  • Sound judgment and good problem solving skills including assessing risk factors
  • Ability to structure time, develop work priorities independently, and meet program expectations with regard to documentation
  • Ability to work weekends*
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Prior residential experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive vehicle required
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Training in Intentional Peer Support, Harm Reduction, medication assistance, emergency procedures, CPR, first aid, hearing voices, having difficult conversations, cross-cultural diversity preferred
  • Ability to share one’s own personal transformative life experiences
  • Personal experience of psychosis/extreme states will be considered an asset

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs often required
  • Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, standing and lifting of arms to participate in cleaning, cooking, space organization and other activities around the house
  • Occasionally meeting with persons in the community and/or visiting different businesses
  • Occasional walking around the community to participate in activities with residents
  • Rarely running or moving at very swift speed to avoid emergency situation
  • Regular operation of a computer and other office machinery including frequent typing
  • Frequent talking and listening in participation of exchanging ideas through spoken word and occasional receipt and giving of detailed information through oral communication
  • Extensive reading responsibilities
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds (i.e. carrying groceries, moving things around the house, etc.)
  • Frequent exposure to outside environmental conditions (all seasons) in accompanying residents in the community and outings
  • Occasional exposure to high levels of noise

Compensation:

  • 1 FTE, hourly employee; worked holidays and 40+hrs/week compensated at time and a half
  • 35-38 hour regular work week

$17 – $19/hour Payscale

$1.50 additional/hour 11 PM – 7 AM

$.75 additional/hour 12 AM Saturday – 6 AM Monday
