Martin’s journey with Pathways Vermont is a story of resilience and growth. As a participant in Pathways Vermont’s Department of Corrections (DOC) and Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) program, Martin describes themselves as someone who never gives up. They have a love for games of all kinds—from card games and board games to puzzles.
Martin first learned about Pathways Vermont while incarcerated. When Martin was released in 2023, they moved into a Department of Corrections apartment.
Reflecting on that transition, Martin recalls, “Before I got out, there was a lot of effort put into it. I met with Pathways team members before I was even released. Medications, EBT, my personal needs, and general assistance, everything was ready for my release date. My release was a very smooth transition.”
Upon release, Martin worked closely with the Pathways DOC and FACT teams. “The FACT team supported me with rides, attended meetings with me, and brought me to appointments. The FACT program was really instrumental in supporting my success,” Martin shares.
When reflecting on why Pathways worked so well for them, Martin says, “Pathways works for me because of the FACT team. FACT isn’t a cookie-cutter solution; it worked for me because it was tailored to MY needs.”
Now settled in permanent housing, Martin is excited about the future. This year, they are looking forward to spending time with their boyfriend and celebrating their 14th AA anniversary—a milestone that fills them with pride and hope.
