Edwin is originally from Connecticut but has lived in Vermont for close to 25 years. He’s easygoing, always happy to lend a hand, and has a way of instantly putting people at ease. His apartment exudes warmth and comfort—just like he does.
Edwin first connected with Pathways Vermont about two years ago, after exiting incarceration, when he began working with our Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) team.
“I had started working with the FACT team right when I exited incarceration, and Noah from FACT helped me so much. He really went out of his way to support me, and that meant a lot.”
Since then, the FACT team has supported Edwin in countless ways—from helping with bus passes and rides to medical appointments to providing peer support and even helping him move. “Whatever I needed, they were there every time. I had someone to rely on, which really made me feel good. At first, I didn’t want the help, but then feeling the impact of their support made me want their help,” Edwin shared. “FACT has kept me out of jail and on my feet. Pathways keeps me accountable.”
Today, Edwin has lived in his current apartment for about a year with his beloved cat, Mimi, who likes to drink water straight from the faucet and loves cuddling. He meets with the FACT team at least once a week and is deeply grateful for the support he continues to receive. Looking ahead, Edwin hopes to visit jails and share his story with others who might benefit from similar support.
“I would love to be a spokesperson for what this support has done for me,” he says. “I would tell anyone considering working with Pathways to give the program a chance and stick with it. You will see for yourself how much of a difference it will make.”
