Meet Zena!

Zena is a true Vermonter. She was born and raised in Vermont, and although she briefly lived in other states, she returned and now calls Burlington home.

In 2022, Zena first connected with Pathways Vermont while transitioning out of incarceration and began working with the Pathways Vermont Department of Corrections program.

Looking back on her early days with Pathways, she recalls, “Pathways staff would bring me to different stores for things I needed. They basically spoiled me. I liked that—it helped.”

She quickly formed a close bond with her team, describing them as “family.” Some of her favorite memories include grabbing Starbucks with Service Coordinator Lily.

After graduating from the Department of Corrections program, Zena spent three months living in motels while searching for permanent housing. Now, she finally has a place to call home. When asked what home truly means to her, she said, “Home is where the heart is. You don’t have to be in a physical apartment to feel at home, but this is my hub now—this is where I feel safe.”

Reflecting on her journey, Zena shares, “I would just like to say thank you to Pathways Vermont for all of the support I have had in the last few years.” As she settles in, she looks forward to getting organized, playing her favorite video games, and—eventually—welcoming a cat into her new space.
